Closed session meetings are held to prevent disclosure of information that is privileged or confidential under the laws of North Carolina. Therefore, information may be redacted from the released closed session meeting minutes and “withheld from public inspection so long as public inspection would frustrate the purpose of a closed session” pursuant to N.C.G.S. § 143-318.10. Information may also be withheld as protected pursuant to other statutes including, but not limited to, N.C.G.S. § 160A-168 (Privacy of employee personnel records), N.C.G.S. § 132-1.1 (Confidential communications by legal counsel to public board or agency), and N.C.G.S. § 132-1.2 (Confidential information).
