The Greensboro Police Department’s Family Victims' Unit investigates all cases of domestic violence, sexual assault, and crimes against juveniles, including child abuse, neglect, sexual molestation, abductions, and deaths.

 Under North Carolina law, domestic violence is "the attempt by one person to injure, stalk or rape another person with whom he has an intimate relationship."

A personal relationship in a domestic violence case is defined as: current or former spouses, people of the opposite/same sex, who are or have lived together, parents and children, people of the opposite/same sex who are dating, a couple who have a child in common, and grandparents and grandchildren if the grandparents are serving as parents.

Family Justice Center

The Guilford County Family Justice Center (FJC) is a “one stop shop” for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse. Under one roof, 45 professionals from 14 different disciplines work together to provide consolidated and coordinated safety, legal, social, and health services to individuals and families in need. At the FJC, victims of domestic and sexual violence can come to one location to access a wide range of supportive resources, such as talking with a victim advocate, getting assistance with filing a restraining order, planning for their safety, talking to a law enforcement officer, meeting with a professional to discuss civil and criminal legal issues, and gaining information on how to access shelter and other community resources.

From the FJC, victims of domestic and sexual violence can file electronically for a temporary protective order, also known as an ex-parte (50B). These orders must be filed by 12:30 pm on a week day in order to be heard by the presiding judge that same day.
