Home Repair GSO

Due to the high volume of contacts, the City has paused taking information from new interested residents for this program until staff can work though the current list of more than 250 potential applicants.

Updates on the application progress and timeframe for accepting new applications will be posted on this page.

Community response has been tremendous for this grant program, which was approved by City Council in November 2022. The program is designed to address the repair needs of low-income homeowners.

City staff will also be working together with other agency program partners in the community to carry out the home repairs.

Eligible Participants

Eligible Properties

Residential properties must be located within Greensboro city limits and be free from known environmental contamination, untreated infestation, and hoarding conditions.

Properties under a Minimum Housing Order to Repair must first be repaired to a point where the Home Repair GSO funding will bring the property into compliance.

Maximum property value limits will be determined annually by the US Housing and Urban Development.

Ownership Requirements

Eligible Repairs

All properties will receive smoke and carbon monoxide safety measures to meet code. Eligible system repairs include:

• Roof repair or replacement
• HVAC repair or replacement
• Electrical or gas system repair or component replacement
• Plumbing or hot water system repair or component replacement
• Structural system failure
• Fire safety installation or replacement
• Foundation structural repair
• Flood danger mitigation
• Tree danger mitigation – limited scope.

After repairs, properties cannot be left with a major code violation. For properties that have additional major violations, other partner program resources will be tapped or a property may be denied for this program.
