In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and the Guilford Merchants Association, the Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities sponsors an annual awards reception every May to recognize employers who have successfully employed people with disabilities or been instrumental in building a barrier-free community.

Outstanding Employer of the Year:
- Recognizes employers who demonstrate outstanding achievements towards improving employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
- Given to employers with an exceptional record of hiring and/or facilitating employment for people with disabilities and that have made efforts toward a barrier-free environment.
Brant Taylor Barrier-Free Success Award:
Recognizes and honors an individual or organization that has made significant contributions to creating a barrier-free environment for persons with disabilities.
