Restaurants produce by-products that can be harmful if they enter the storm drainage system. By using sound environmental management practices, however, restaurants can increase efficiency and prevent sewer overflows that negatively impact the environment.
How can your restaurant reduce pollution?
- Never pour used cooking oil and grease into sinks, floor drains, parking lots, streets, or storm drains.
- Discard wash water into a mop or utility sink.
- When cleaning floor mats or equipment, contain the waste water and properly dispose of it in a mop or utility sink.
- Keep dumpsters and surrounding areas clean of debris. Always keep lids closed.
- Train employees on pollution prevention.
- Learn more commercial/institutional tips.
Restaurants are required to prevent pollutants from entering storm drains in order to comply with the City's Code of Ordinances (Chapter 30, Article 12, Section 7.3).
