College and Lindley Road projectProject History

In May 2015, the City conducted a public workshop on a future project to make improvements to Lindley Road from College Road to Friendly Avenue. The improvements will include sidewalks with curb and gutter along both sides of the roadway and make turn lane improvements.

Two alternatives were presented: one that would widen the road from two to three lanes and another that would install a turn lane only at the school and at W. Friendly Avenue.

Based on public comments and a review of transportation needs on the corridor, the City decided to install a turn lane only at the school and at W. Friendly Avenue.

In 2023, the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), in cooperation with NCDOT, added federal funds to support the construction phase of the project. Right-of-way acquisition is currently under way using City funds. The federally supported construction phase is expected to get underway by mid-2025. The Transportation Improvement Program number is HL-0126.
