The Objective

The primary objective of the Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI) is to mitigate and diminish instances of violent crime within high-crime neighborhoods, thereby contributing to a reduction of overall crime rates in Greensboro. This objective is pursued through a systematic approach that incorporates data analysis and incorporates input from residents and collaborative partners. The implementation of this approach involves the careful selection and deployment of comprehensive, evidence-based violence intervention and prevention methodologies.

          Principles:

  • Targeted violence interventions and support for the highest need groups
  • Community-centered and equity-focused community engagement to address systemic issues
  • Integration of public safety and public health workers for trauma-based interventions
  • Strategic, data-driven, and performance-focused research

Goals:

Goal 1: Reduce and prevent community violence through efforts focused on individuals at highest risk of  violence perpetration or victimization

Goal 2: Reduce and prevent community violence through efforts focused on engaging neighborhoods  experiencing high levels of violence

Goal 3: Leverage activities and successes under Goals 1 and 2 to help achieve improvements in  relationships between community members and law enforcement

Goal 4: Implement strategic, data-driven, and performance-focused approaches to ensure model fidelity  and sustainability

Expected impact:

The CVIPI seeks to reduce community violence by targeting high-risk individuals and engaging violence-prone neighborhoods. Its objectives include breaking the cycle of violence, addressing root causes, empowering community members, and fostering positive change. The initiative aims to improve relationships between community members and law enforcement and ensure sustainability by employing strategic, data-driven approaches.
