The Planning Department's mission is to promote quality growth throughout Greensboro with professional and knowledgeable staff, outstanding customer service, and innovative problem-solving.

Planning aims to ensure that all areas of Greensboro -- residential, business and center city -- remain healthy and vital. We work closely with government agencies, businesses, community and neighborhood groups, residents, and elected officials to supply physical and social data and analysis for informed decision-making.

Our department also provides professional land use planning expertise to residents, businesses, and the development community to promote orderly development and long-term quality of life in the City and its environs.

The department is comprised of four divisions and more than 29 staff members. Staff have specialized national and state certifications such as Certified Zoning Officers (CZO), American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and Geographic Information Systems Professionals (GISP), as well as several other accreditations and certifications.
