Purpose of this Project
The purpose of the Historic District Standards is to protect the special character of these historic neighborhoods. And although the standards have served that purpose well over the years, it is time for a review to:

  • Make sure they are as clear and user-friendly as possible
  • Bring them up-to-date in terms of preservation science, energy efficiency, sustainability, and resilience
  • Get feedback about your experience with the Certificate of Appropriateness process and how it can be improved
  • Ensure our Historic District Standards conform with the US Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, the nation's official preservation standards.
