GYC provides service learning opportunities through leadership roles on the Executive Board, as an Event Chair, and Event Staff. These positions require more time and dedication than regular volunteer positions.
We are considered a service learning provider through Guilford County Schools for those working toward a Service Learning Diploma or Certificate. Learn more about Guilford County School's Service Learning requirements.
2024-2025 Executive Board Positions
Executive Board members serve a year-long term (June-May) leading the youth council with the potential to earn 60-100 volunteer service hours. The board operates as team and works with GYC adult advisors to learn and understand their positions while developing leadership skills.

Membership Director
- Recruits GYC members, helping them through the joining process, and manages volunteer opportunities and service hours.
- The position requires at least six months GYC experience as current, active member and is open to rising juniors and seniors.
Training Director
- Plans and coordinates leadership workshop for teens in the community.
- This position is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Community Event Chairs
A project chair leads the planning, execution, and evaluation of a GYC community event with help of a staff and the GYC adult advisors. If you are interested in event planning and are organized and creative, being an event chair is a great way to earn between 40-60 service learning hours. - Santa's Workshop
- Event description: New and used toys are collected to give to families in need during the holiday season. Learn more about the program.
- Major event dates:
- Toy drive runs November to the beginning of December
- Prep days - December 9-13
- Shopping days - December 13 and 14
- A few duties of the Chair:
- Secure locations to serve as toy collection sites and recruit volunteers for prep and shopping days.
- Camille's Closet/Theo's Threads Event Chair
- Event description: This event collects new and like-new formal wear and accessories to provide to teens attending spring special events, such as prom, for free. Learn more about the event.
- Major event dates:
- The drive to collect items begins in January as well as prep days.
- The shopping days will be in April.
- Below are a few duties of the Chair:
- Assist in creating a plan to collect the formal wear and accessories; this includes finding partners and sponsors.
- Seek out collection sites.
- Earth Day Event Chair
- Event description: GYC will provide activities and crafts for the City's Earth Day Festival.
- Major event dates:
- The event is held in April. Prep days will be held in February and March to prepare.
- Below are a few duties of the Chair:
- Assist promoting the event to gather teen involvement.
- Select crafts and activities for the event.

- How does the selection process work?
- Applications are reviewed the selection committee. Once all applications are reviewed, you will receive a call regarding your application and to schedule an interview.
- The interview is an opportunity for you to ask questions and the committee to get to know you better and your interest in the position.
