Forest Lawn 2This cemetery opened in 1928 and is the largest of the municipal cemeteries, with more than 70 acres. Forest Lawn more closely resembles the newer memorial parks in design. Upright family memorials are permitted in all but one section. This section, section 5, has been set aside for ground level memorials only.

A veteran's section, section 1, known as Veteran's Circle, is provided for the burial of honorably discharged veterans. A copy of the DD214 military document, indicating the honorable discharge, is required for burial here.

Cemetery lots and graves are sold with provisions for perpetual care. Twenty-five percent of the sale price for a lot or grave is placed in a Perpetual Care Trust Fund to ensure that our cemeteries will be properly maintained in the years to come. All sales are governed by the rules and regulations adopted by the Greensboro City Council and include the installation of monuments and plantings within the cemeteries. These regulations are designed to protect the interest of owners and preserve the natural beauty of the cemeteries.

What's Happening at Forest Lawn Cemetery

Memorial Day Ceremony

Special events are held in Forest Lawn annually. A Memorial Day Ceremony is sponsored by American Legion Post 53. Flags are placed on the tombstones of each veteran in Veteran's Circle. Along with a 21-gun salute and a guest speaker, the names are read of each Guilford County veteran who has past away during the year.

Wreaths Across America

On December 14, 2013, Greensboro and Forest Lawn became the 27th community in North Carolina and one of more than 800 communities nationwide involved in Wreaths Across America, a program dedicated to placing wreaths at veterans' graves every December. The mission -- Remember, Honor, Teach -- is carried out in part by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies a specified Saturday in December. Each year, donated wreaths are delivered to national veterans' cemeteries around the country, where thousands of volunteers take a quiet moment to show their gratitude and appreciation during the holiday season.
