About

In 2023, the City of Greensboro was awarded $825,000 from the US Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service for a five-year project that will conduct a tree canopy study and engage disadvantaged residents in urban forestry. The grant will be overseen by the City’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience with support from other City departments.

The City’s project, “Keeping the Green in Greensboro, NC: A Tree Canopy Assessment & Equity Prioritization,” will include an assessment of how much of the city is covered by trees – research that has not been conducted in Guilford County since 2009.

The project also will create a website for community engagement, data, mapping, and resources for visualizing and providing feedback to inform the assessment and actions.
