The City of Greensboro is committed to treating every resident with respect and dignity in the provision of City services regardless of English proficiency. In accordance with this commitment, and to ensure the City meets federal requirements under Title VI of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, reasonable steps will be taken to provide meaningful access to City services, programs, information, and activities.
Any person who feels he or she has been aggrieved by unlawful discriminatory practice under Title VI may file a complaint with the City of Greensboro by calling Human Rights at 336-373-2038.
The City supports the Language Access Program with the following initiatives:
- Bilingual pay incentive program – The City provides financial incentives to those employees certified in languages other than English. The City has certified bilingual staff in Arabic and Spanish.
- Language access liaisons – Each City department has at least one staff member designated as a Language Access Liaison. Liaisons receive special language access training and participate in occasional workshops and programs to assist colleagues and inform leaders of language-related matters.
- Access to Language Line – The City sponsors access to a dedicated telephone interpreter service where callers may receive audio interpretation in real time.
- Training - In support of providing superior customer service to Greensboro's Spanish-speaking community, the City offers training to staff on the necessity of providing language resources, and sponsors Spanish-language classes geared towards staff in service positions.
