About
This permit program is designed to encourage creative placemaking, broaden access to art, and celebrate the unique identity of Greensboro’s neighborhoods. Community organizations, groups of neighbors, or business owners, in partnership with artists, may use this program to create murals on public sidewalks and streets. Up to five projects will be permitted during each application period.
Eligibility
- Murals must be proposed by community organizations or a group of three or more individuals or business owners located in close proximity to the project location. Owners of at least 70 percent of the adjacent property must sign a petition in support of the project.
- Murals may only be located on sidewalks or slower, less trafficked “local” streets. (Eligible streets are shaded in gray on this map.)
- Murals may not contain words, sexual imagery, depict violence, or be religious, commercial, or political in nature.
- Applicants must work with at least one artist who has completed a project of similar size and scope. Creative Greensboro can help you connect with interested artists.
Costs
- Applicants must pay for required street closure/permit fees (generally $50-$100).
- Funding is not available through this permitting program. Partnerships that allow for the compensation of artists are encouraged.
How To Apply
- Read complete Mural Program Guidelines for full project eligibility information and other program rules.
- Submit your application online.
- Applications must be received at least 60 days prior to proposed installation date.
