Our Burial Index of cemeteries in Greensboro includes burials in three of the Municipal Cemeteries operated by the City of Greensboro -- Forest Lawn, Green Hill, and Maplewood. Using this index, you will find details of more than 35,000 burials and our database is continuously updated.

The earliest burial in the index took place in 1840 at Green Hill Cemetery. There are approximately 500 burials dating prior to 1900, all at Green Hill. The earliest burial at Maplewood took place in 1900 and the earliest at Forest Lawn was in 1915. The Cemeteries Division also maintains the City of Greensboro's oldest African American cemetery, Union Cemetery. Read brief histories of these cemeteries by visiting the Web pages for Forest Lawn, Green HillMaplewood and Union cemeteries.

There are, of course, many other cemeteries in Greensboro and Guilford County that are not contained in this database, such as church and private family cemeteries. For information on other cemeteries, we recommend the books Guilford County Cemeteries (Vol.1 West and Vol. 2 East) and Family Burying Grounds & Abandoned Church Cemeteries in Guilford County, as well as other sources that can be found in the Greensboro Public Library.
