Greensboro’s Online Budget Simulator

Balancing Act is an online simulation tool you can use to create your own City of Greensboro budget. Add money to your favorite services, or take them away from less-favored services. Just don't forget -- the budget must be balanced! Give Balancing Act a try.

The Balancing Act tool represents a high-level look at City operations and highlights services that have the most impact on Greensboro residents.

When using the simulator, remember:

  • Each click adds or subtracts one percent of the overall category. For example, if police had a budget of $50 million, one click would add or subtract $500,000 from the overall police budget.
  • The goal is to get as close to balanced without leaving a deficit. Since each click is one percent of the service budget, getting to $0 may be difficult. However, a small surplus is fine.

Balancing Act More About Balancing Act

Do you know how the City’s budget works or where the money comes from? Would you like to provide feedback about how you think the City should be spending your tax dollars?

  • The Balancing Act budget simulation tool allows you to adjust budgets for various City departments and align resources with the services that matter most to you.
  • The key is to balance the City’s revenues and expenses the same way the City does annually, before a budget is officially adopted.
  • City budget staff are available to meet with residents at community and neighborhood meetings, including virtually, to share this simulation tool and explain how it works.
