The City’s Transgender Task Force (TTF) will host a Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) vigil on Sunday, November 20, from 5:30-6:30 pm on the front steps of the Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington St.
The TDOR commemorates all transgender people lost to violence. It was started in 1999 by advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman killed in 1998. This event will highlight the Greensboro community’s losses due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence, and raise awareness of the importance of continuing to fight for justice.
TTF’s mission is to provide public education on transgender issues and to improve the quality of life for the City’s transgender residents.
