Anthems of Change: Sweet Honey in the Rock

  • Cost

Greensboro Public Library Foundation presents  Sweet Honey in the Rock® on Thursday, September 15 at 7 pm in Dana Auditorium, Guilford College campus.

Movements seeking social change have long used music. In the 1950s and '60s, this was particularly true; musicians openly addressed the issues of the day. Singers have lent both their names and their musical talents to the American Civil Rights Movement, Labor Equality, and Indigenous Rights. In fact, Freedom songs played an essential role bolstering courage, inspiring participation, and fostering a sense of community.

Sweet Honey In The Rock® is a performance ensemble rooted in African American history and culture. The ensemble educates, entertains and empowers its audience and community through the dynamic vehicles of a cappella singing and American Sign Language interpretation for the Deaf and hard of hearing. This program will be part of their golden anniversary celebration.
