We’ve all done it: called a City of Greensboro office to report something and were told that office doesn’t handle the issue. Even if you’re given the phone number to the correct office, time spent getting to the right person can be frustrating.
That’s why the City’s
Code Compliance Division is starting a series of discussions with residents throughout Greensboro about what its inspectors are responsible for and what they aren’t, and explain the importance of knowing a little bit about our Code of Ordinances.
Join the inaugural Code Academy meetings on Thursday, November 9. The daytime meeting begins at 11 am at Glenwood Recreational Center, 2010 Coliseum Blvd., and the nighttime meeting starts at 6:30 pm at Brown Recreational Center, 302 E. Vandalia Rd.
Code Compliance Inspectors will talk about what folks should contact them for, which is making sure the City’s
Chapter 11 Housing Code and
Chapter 17 Nuisances are adhered to by everyone.
The housing code outlines what a property owner is responsible for, conditions that make a building unfit for humans, and how infractions are addressed.
The nuisances code outlines what nuisances are, who is responsible for enforcing those situations, and again, how infractions are addressed.
According to Code Compliance Manager Larry Roberts, with the Housing and Neighborhood Development Department (HND), his office gets many calls daily about issues such as excess noise, alleged zoning infractions, and oversized vehicles parked in residential areas.
Three different departments cover each of those three issues, Roberts says, and they aren’t HND.
