City Council
Action Wrap-Up |
Outgoing
Council says yes to using Hotel-Motel tax to help
fund aquatic center; new Council wants to take a
second look.
At a special meeting on Tuesday, December 1,
outgoing City Council members conducted a public
hearing to consider funding options for an aquatic
center at the Greensboro Coliseum. After hearing
comments from the public, Council decided to move
ahead with the project using revenues from the
City's Hotel-Motel tax to make up the funding gap
between the $12 million bond issue and the
$18,875,000 cost of the proposed facility.
Following conclusion of the special meeting,
outgoing Council members met for their regularly
scheduled final meeting, which was largely
ceremonial. Mayor Yvonne Johnson, Mayor Pro-Tem
Sandra Anderson-Groat, Dr. Goldie Wells and Mike
Barber concluded their terms. After a brief
adjournment, the new City Council was sworn in and
Nancy Vaughan was selected and sworn in as the new
Mayor Pro Tem. Learn more about the new
Council. Once routine activities were
concluded, the new Council decided to review the
aquatic center issue at the December 15 City
Council meeting. To view the entire meeting
