City Council
Action Wrap-Up |
Council
approves loan of up to $1.2 million to Nussabaum
Center.
At its meeting on Tuesday,
May 4, Greensboro City Council agreed to lend the
Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship up to $1.2
million to renovate its new facility.
The nonprofit, which
assists local start-up businesses, requested the
funds because its current location at Revolution
Mill Studios is scheduled to be renovated and
leased at a higher rate, so it has to
relocate.
The center needs a
total of $2.8 million to renovate its new facility
at the old Carolina Steel building on South
Elm-Eugene Street, which was donated. So far, it
has acquired $1.4 million from a federal Economic
Development Administration (EDA) grant and
$200,000 from the Golden Leaf Foundation, a
nonprofit that focuses on economic development.
The $1.2 million that it needs from the City will
be used solely for renovation and
construction.
Council approved
loaning the center up to $1.2 million at a rate of
2.5 percent for a 20-year term, secured by a deed
of trust on the South Elm-Eugene Street property.
The loan will be repaid in monthly installments of
principal and interest beginning July 1, 2012, and
is subject to the approval of the EDA grant and
Golden Leaf award, satisfactory title to the South
Elm-Eugene Street property, and a satisfactory
environmental report on the
property.

Need to Settle
a Dispute? |
New program
from City and UNCG could
help.
Are you a tenant or landlord involved in a
dispute? If so, the City's and UNC-Greensboro's
new Landlord Tenant Dispute Program may be able to
help. The program provides opportunities for
landlords and tenants to work together to solve
problems with the aid of a trained mediator. Some
of the issues that can be mediated during the
program include damaged property, noise
complaints, repairs, financial problems and other
issues.
"This program is an
excellent partnership between the City and the
University," said Dr. Anthony Wade, director of
the City's Human Relations Department. "It affords
landlords and tenants the opportunity to resolve
their issues at the lowest possible level and
facilitates a constructive business relationship
going forward."

program online or by calling

May is National
Bike Month |
Celebrate by
putting safety first.
May is National Bike
Month and in recognition of it, the City wants to
remind bicyclists and motorists how to share the
road. Bicyclists can share the road by following
all traffic laws, wearing a helmet and reflective
clothing, riding on the right side of the road,
and watching out for cars turning into bike lanes.
Motorists can share the road by looking for
bicyclists before turning and before opening
doors, not driving or parking in bike lanes, and
remembering that bicycles are vehicles and
treating them as such.
Also, mark your
calendars for Bike-to-Work Week, May
17-21, and Bike-to-Work Day, May
21. | |
