City Council Action
Wrap-Up |
Council agrees
to changes in real estate sign
ordinance
At
its March 1 meeting, Greensboro City Council
approved changes to the ordinance regulating the
use of weekend real estate signs. Council voted to
reduce the restriction on sign location and
simplify the violation fines. Under the old
ordinance, real estate signs posted at street
corners had to be at least 20 feet from an
intersection. The new ordinance does not regulate
the distance from intersections, but does hold
those responsible for displaying the signs to be
sure they do not obstruct or interfere with
pedestrian or vehicular traffic. Meanwhile, fines
for violating the sign ordinance are now $50 per
occurrence.
In
other action, Council approved multiple agenda
items that set into motion plans to develop a
small park and playground in the Village at
Northside community. Council approved the purchase
of the land and a contract with KaBOOM!, a
national nonprofit organization, to build the
playground on Kay
Street.
The
next City Council meeting is Tuesday, March 15, at
5:30 pm in the Council Chamber of the Melvin
Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington
St. To view past meetings, visit City
Council's video archive page.
