Fire
Department to Test Fire
Hydrants
The
Greensboro Fire Department will conduct its
semiannual fire hydrant testing April 1-May 1
during normal operating hours. All city hydrants
will be tested to ensure they work and produce
the required water pressure when
needed.
Opening
hydrants can cause temporary water discoloration
in nearby homes, which is not harmful, and can
be cleared up by running the water for a few
minutes.
If
you see a hydrant that is out of service or not
working properly, contact the City of Greensboro
Water Resources Department at 336-373-2033. The
Fire Department tests the hydrants, but does not
maintain them.

City Council Action
Wrap-Up |
Council approves
multiple agreements with Guilford County
At
its April 5 meeting, Greensboro City Council
approved a request from the Natural Science Center
to expedite a $310,000 improvement to the
facility's parking lot. Thanks to large attendance
at many of the Center's national exhibits, the
request was approved to create a larger parking
area for attendees.
In
addition, Council approved its agreements with
Guilford County on tax collection, the library
system, and animal control. Under the new
agreements, which total $963,000 annually, the
County will continue to collect property taxes
from Greensboro residents. The agreements also
require the County to take full responsibility of
the Guilford County Animal Shelter and animal
control, at an annual cost to the City of $713,000
and $508,000
respectively. Meanwhile, the
County will pay $1.45 million each year toward the
operation of the Greensboro Public Library
System.
The
next City Council meeting is Tuesday, April 19, at
5:30 pm in the Council Chamber of the Melvin
Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington
St.
