City Council Action
Wrap-Up |
City budget
includes solutions to limit
impact
During
the May 17 City Council meeting, City Manager
Rashad Young presented the recommended budget for
fiscal year 2011-12. The budget includes $13
million in budget solutions for the upcoming year,
with $9.5 million in reductions and another $3.3
million in revenue enhancements. The
recommendations were designed to limit the impact
on the City's service delivery to residents and no
tax or water rate increase was proposed. City
Council will hold a work session to discuss the
budget on Tuesday, May 24, and a public hearing
for residents to speak on budget items is
scheduled as part of City Council's meeting on
Tuesday, June 7. The budget is scheduled to be
voted on by Council on Tuesday, June 21. For more
information, visit the City's budget process page
online.
In
other action, Council narrowed the list of
companies bidding for the City's waste management
services. Council selected Gate City Waste
Services and Waste Industries Inc. as the
finalists for the contract and is expected to make
a final decision within the next 30
days.
Council
also approved an ordinance amendment regarding the
next phase of energy improvements to be made to
City buildings and operations. The $1 million
energy savings contract will save the City over
$1.3 million during the next 12 years.
The
next City Council meeting is scheduled for 5:30 pm
on Tuesday, June 7, in the Council Chamber of the
Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W.
Washington St. To view past
