Incentives
to local company and waste services managment on
Council agenda
At
its meeting on Tuesday, August 16, City Council
paved the way for the growth of a local employer
and made a decision on the future of the City's
solid waste
services.
Council
unanimously voted to offer $523,750 in incentives
to HondaJet to aid the company in expanding its
headquarters near the Piedmont Triad International
Airport. HondaJet recently announced it is
considering adding a parts distribution warehouse
and additional manufacturing operations over the
next five years. The proposed project would cost
HondaJet $88 million and add 419 jobs at an
average salary of $53,000 per-year to the region.
In
other action, Council selected Gate City Waste
Services to manage the City's municipal solid
waste operations, including White Street Landfill.
Council will hold a public hearing regarding solid
waste management on September 20, with a final
contract with Gate City Waste Services set to be
approved on October 4.
The
next regularly scheduled City Council meeting is
Tuesday, September 13, at 5:30 pm in the Council
Chamber of the Melvin Municipal Office Building,
300 W. Washington St. There is not a meeting
on September 6 due to the Labor Day
holiday.

a memorial ceremony at Fire Station One on Church
Street. The public is invited as the department
unveils new memorial bricks as part of the
Greensboro's Bravest Memorial, while guests from
the local and state delegations will be on hand to
offer their thoughts on 9/11. In
addition, 343 red balloons will be released
in memory of the fallen
firefighters.
