City
Council Action Wrap-Up |
High Point Road/West Lee Street Corridor Plan
approved.
High Point Road is one of the busiest
thoroughfares in the city, but from a visual
standpoint it's a little lackluster. At its
meeting on Tuesday, December 16, Greensboro's City
Council took action to change that.
Council adopted the High Point
Road/West Lee Street Corridor Plan, which will
serve as a guide to revitalize and enhance the
area. The plan provides opportunities and
guidelines for significant new public and private
investments to enhance the area's overall
appearance and function and improve levels of
public safety and perception. As a
first step to implement the High Point Road
Corridor Plan, Council approved the allocation of
$3.2 million for the purchase of the Canada Dry
property and the allocation of $2.2 million to
purchase the Coliseum Inn
property. Council also
approved:
- The rezoning of property at Holden Road and
Spring Garden Street to allow for a Dunkin'
Donuts with a drive-thru.
- A $2.9 million contract for construction of
the first phase of Gateway Gardens on West Lee
Street near Barber Park. Work will begin in
January. This phase of the project will be
completed summer 2009.

Paying
Water Bills at Third Party Payment Centers May Put
You at Risk |
City suggests making payments at authorized
locations.
The City of Greensboro has no contract with
any third party payment center to take payments
for water utility bills. There may be businesses
that advertise they will take utility billing
payments on behalf of the City, but these are
non-authorized payment locations. Making your
payment at these locations may possibly put you at
risk of not having your payment applied to your
account at all or not in a timely
manner. Customers that
make payments at a non-authorized location should
note that the water utility bill is not paid until
the City of Greensboro receives the money, which
may take several days. The City has two
locations where customers may make payments, at
the Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W.
Washington St., and at the J. Edward Kitchen
Operations Center, 2602 S. Elm-Eugene St.
Customers can also deposit payments in City drop
boxes at the J. Edward Kitchen Operations Center
and at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot Transportation
Center, 236-C, E. Washington St. No cash payments
may be deposited in the drop box; only checks or
money orders are accepted. For additional
information about paying your water bill, call
373-CITY (2489) or visit us online. |
