The City of Greensboro is dedicated to assisting employees in their pursuit of personal and professional development. Development is vital to the growth of an individual, their department, and the organization as a whole.

The Organizational Effectiveness and Development (OED) division is responsible for most employee development. They offer guidance and support to employees in the form of leadership development, individualized career coaching, and customized training.  

  • Transformational Leadership Series: Designed to provide management tools and motivational skills to help achieve a shared vision and create positive change within the City as an organization.
    • Intro to Leadership, Operational Leadership, Foundations of Policy, and Systemic Leadership

  • Frontline Fuel: Training sessions designed to support and develop the valuable frontline employees of the City of Greensboro.
     
  • Greensboro Speaks: This program teaches employees techniques to learn and practice essential Spanish phrases, understand legalities, resources for language access programs, cultivate empathy and cultural humility, and connections to resources that will continue development that will enhance the level of services to Spanish speaking residents.  
  • Toastmasters:  Educational series that helps employees develop both leadership and public speaking skills through structured programs and supportive environments, empowering them to become more confident communicators and effective leaders in all aspects of their lives.

  • G-School: Experiential learning experience where participants has the opportunity to explore the work environment and roles of experienced workplace colleagues to gain insight into how to learn and develop in their current role.  

People & Culture also offers Tuition Assistance to full and part-time benefited employees working towards an associate, bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees.
