The purpose of the Historic District Standards is to protect the special character of Greensboro’s historic neighborhoods: College Hill, Dunleath and Fisher Park. Current standards have served that purpose well over the years, but Planning Department historic preservation staff say it is time for a review.
“Where necessary, we need to bring our standards up-to-date in terms of preservation science, energy efficiency, sustainability and resilience,” said Senior Planner Mike Cowhig.
City staff also will ensure its standards conform with the US Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, the country’s official preservation standards.
