Today's Bicentennial Minute: August 28, 1905
On this date in history, residents enjoyed a week of merriment at Lindley Park with entertainment by an opera, vaudeville and comedy company. The cost of an evening of fun was 25 cents for the most expensive ticket.

TSA's "VIPR" Program at the Depot

Representatives of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), along with Greensboro Police Chief Tim Bellamy, addressed reporters at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot on Thursday, August 28, to provide information about its VIPR program. VIPR is an acronym for Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response. VIPR teams work with local law enforcement officials to supplement existing security resources at public transportation venues.
City Offices Closed for Labor Day
City of Greensboro offices will be closed on Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day. The following services and facilities will operate on a holiday schedule:
- No trash or recycling pickup will take place on Monday, September 1.
Monday’s collection will take place on Tuesday, September 2. Tuesday’s collection takes place on Wednesday, September 3.
- The White Street Landfill and the Solid Waste Transfer Station will both be closed on Monday, September 1.
- All branches of the Greensboro Public Library will be closed on Monday, September 1, but will operate regular hours on Saturday and Sunday, August 30-31.
- GTA, SCAT and HEAT will run a Saturday transportation schedule on Monday, September 1.
State of Our Community
The 9th annual State of Our Community Luncheon was held on August 27 at the Sheraton Four Seasons/Koury Convention Center. At the event, Greensboro Mayor Yvonne Johnson gave the State of the Community speech.

Residents Will Vote on Bond Issues in November
Greensboro City Council has approved placing four bond issues on the November ballot for voter consideration. Approval of all four bond proposals could increase the City tax rate by 2.5 cents. Bonds going to the November ballot include:
