City Offices Closed for Independence Day
City of Greensboro offices will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day. No trash or recycling pick-up will take place on Friday, July 3. Friday’s collection will take place on Thursday, July 2. Thursday’s collection takes place on Wednesday, July 1. Read more about other services and facilities that will operate on a holiday schedule.
Fun Fourth
Looking for something exciting to do for the Fourth of July? Come to Downtown Greensboro and celebrate 'Fun Fourth' with a street festival, parade, music, fireworks and much more! The Fun Fourth festival kicks-off Friday, July 3, at 7 pm with a block party and ends Saturday night, July 4, with a spectacular fireworks show. The event is free and open to the public. City Council Approves FY2009-10 Budget
The City’s new fiscal year began July 1. City Council approved a budget totaling $421,948,889 for FY2009-10. This budget includes no increases in taxes or fees. View the recommended budget in its entirety or by section. The final budget will be posted later this month.
Crime Stoppers Nominated for National Award
GPD’s Crime Stoppers program has been nominated for the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award. The award, which is given annually by FBI Director Robert Mueller, honors individuals and organizations for their efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs and violence in America. The winner will be announced in August.

GTA New Fares and Routes
Beginning July 1, Greensboro Transit Authority's (GTA) fares will increase for public transportation users. For a complete list of new fares, visit GTA's Web site or call 335-6499. Also, on July 1, GTA will enhance older routes and start new ones to better serve customers. View routes.
Painting Curbs is a Violation of City CodeSeveral reports have been made by residents that someone is putting flyers in people’s doors, soliciting them to have their curbs painted with their house number. Be aware that the City is not doing this. In fact, painting street curbs is in violation with
municipal code 26-43, section C. If you have any questions, call 373-CITY (2489).
City Now Lists Small Businesses on Web Site
The City now lists addresses and telephone numbers for small business on its Web site. To be included on this list, small business owners are required to purchase a Business Privilege License and renew it annually.
